Thank-you cards & playing around

I made this card on the weekend from My March Paper Pumpkin kit.  I needed a few quick cards for Duane to give his fellow coaches & his managers from Natalie's ringette team this season.  I was able to make them in about 5 minutes so it was perfect.  I made another design from this month's Paper Pumpkin that is not pictured here because there is something wrong with my stickers in that kit.  I made the 2 that I needed but did not make the other 2 & I am now waiting for them to send me new ones so that I can complete the other cards in the kit.

This card is made with Daffodil Delight paper & was inspired by a design that I saw on Pinterest.  I think that I will make one something like this for Mother's Day but will add a bit more colour.

More cards

Here are the cards that I made this week.  I mailed off the birthday cards & the get well one is ready to go.  The card I made for my nephew just needs a sentiment.  I am well ahead of the game because his birthday is not until June.  I am going to make one similar but with different colours for my niece's birthday in May.  I should probably get on that one because I have to find a suitable Lego person & mail it in a couple of weeks.  I still have the thank-you cards to make but generally was pretty successful in get done what I hoped to accomplish.

My repurposed wine bottles

I bought some Hemp twine last week & decided to wrap a wine bottle that we had polished off.  It turned out so well that I finished another bottle of wine so I could make another one.  I learned a few things from the first attempt so the second one turned out even better.  I just need to find another bottle but with a slightly different shape so that I can have a set for my counter or mantel as decoration.  Now I will have to go buy more twine & drink another bottle of wine...

Baby calves

It is that time of the year at the farm when the baby calves arrive.  The girls always love going to the farm but especially when they might get a chance to pet a baby calf in the barn or watch them kick up their heels & tear around in the straw.  Two years ago Grandpa gave each of the girls a heifer from a set of twins that he had.  Natalie's is black & does not have a name for her.  Dana's is a mousy grey with a white face & calls her Mabelle.  This year was especially exciting as those heifers would be having their first calf.  Dana's arrived on April 9th & Natalie's on April 14th so we made a trip out to the farm to see them last Sunday. Plus it was a chance for me to take the new Highlander out for a highway drive!  Dana's was out in a pen & was harder to catch, but Nat's was still int the barn so she got a chance to get up close.

Cards made and to make

This weekend the girls & I made a card for one of their friend's birthday.  We got the design from my friend Karina & copied it with a few alterations.  This is not the actual card that they gave away but a second one so we are ready when the need arises!

This week I have to make a few cards - one for my Grandmother's birthday & I am thinking of something from my knitting stamp set.  I also want to make one for a dear friend that is an avid quilter & I think that I have found a few designs on Pinterest that should fit the bill.  I also have some thank-you cards that I need to make for birthday gifts that I have already received & lastly I would like to make some thank-you notes that Dave & Jen can use for baby gifts.

I have asked Jen about a shower for her once the baby arrives & she has agreed to let me host one.  I am very excited & am looking around for cool invitations that I could make.  We are going to wait until the baby comes so I would like to have it all laid out with just the date to fill in.  I think that I will play around with My Digital Studio & I am sure that I can come up with something that is quick & easy.

Here is to a paper-crafting kind of week!

Baby viking helmet

I have been working on another baby gift - a viking helmet.  I have almost completed 3 but ripped back one because I was not happy with it.  I have a 1-3 month size complete except for the horns (which is pictured below) & a 3 month-toddler size nearly done.  The pattern called for popcorn stitches & front post double chains which are new stitches for me.  I mastered them but I am not happy with the joins in the round. I am trying to get it worked out so that I will be happy to give it as a gift.  My dad says that I might have to add some braids if the baby is a girl but I think that I can do that easily with some yellow yarn. Perfect for a baby with Scandinavian heritage!

Birthday cards

Here are the cards that I made for today.  While I had birthday cards in my stash, this one called for something special.  Dana turns 15 & shares her birthday with her Auntie Jen.  We celebrated on Sunday but will be going out for supper tonight on their actual birthday.
This card is hoping that spring is just around the corner so Jen can play in the dirt.
She loves pink & loves bling so this will give her a bit of both!

My new ride. I love it!

Well after much deliberation we bought a 2013 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. We knew it would be a Toyota but just were not sure that the Hybrid made sense economically. It makes sense environmentally & after Duane crunched the numbers, it will be a close call whether it saves us money in the long run. Since I drive the girls around so much, we decided to give it a whirl. It's fun to drive trying to keep it in electric mode only. The downside is that my dog crate does not fit very well in the back unless a seat is down so I will have to look around for another that might fit better. Another crate that is not another dog or vehicle!

After driving it home & my first chance to take it for a spin.  46km already!
